QUALIFICATIONS FOR CHURCH LEADERS
ELDERS are described in the Bible as being both shepherds and overseers. As shepherds they must be spiritual men who care about people, are sensitive and approachable, and are involved in meeting the needs of others. As overseers they are the decision-making body of the church.
The following qualifications for Elders are outlined in Acts 6:3; Timothy 3:1-12; and Titus 1:6-11.
“above reproach”–He not only has a good reputation, but deservedly so.
“one woman man”–Has only one marriage partner. Is not unfaithful and not flirtatious.
“self-controlled”–He lives a life characterized by self-restraint, orderliness, and moderation.
“able to teach”–The ability to capably teach God’s Word is required of elders, but not deacons.
“not a drinker of much wine”–He must not have a drinking problem.
“not violent, but gentle”–Not quick-tempered.
“not a lover of money”–Is not motivated by greed, and seeks the kingdom of God above material wealth.
“He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect.”
“Must be hospitable”–Enthusiastically shares his home, his food, and his fellowship with others.
“sensible”; “full of wisdom”–Level-headed and able to make good decisions and stand by them.
“must not be a recent convert”–Has had time to mature and to prove himself.
“Must have a good reputation with outsiders”–A church leader represents the church to the community.
“full of the Spirit”–He is growing in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
“Their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers, but temperate and trustworthy in everything.”

NOMINEE MUST BE A MEMBER OF FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF KEWANEE, ILLINOIS - DUTIES BEGIN EACH JANUARY

TRUSTEES - Their job is to sign legal papers such as deeds, contracts, etc. There are no meetings to attend and the job is “as needed.”
